Human Decorations: Modern Day Prince Andru
Romantic royalty, soft lace, surprising textures, gold and bling blings all that surrounded by insects and sunshine, documented on daily updated album. Coming from the deepest heart of Texas, San Antonio, living in Los Angeles charming Prince Andru (Johnathan Andru Acosta) captured our attention with his personal style. We felt an urge to get in touch with him and talk about his inspirations.
How do you select your jewelry?
Usually the jewelry I wear is either given to me by friends or loved ones such as rings. And with earrings I like anything that's fun & whimsical!
Where do you get your jewelry and clothes?
I actually have been making a lot of my own jewelry lately. This one time the shoe design program at my school was tossing away a bunch of Vivienne Westwood samples, so I pulled them out of the trash & took the Orb logo off the shoes & turned them into clip on earrings. It's fun to be crafty.
And my favorite places to shop in Los Angeles are any thrift or antique shop. I'm always there!
There’s a reoccuring theme of butterflies, bugs or insects in your pictures, what is your connection with them? Do you get inspired by them for your looks?
Yes, I have a thing for bugs & I do get inspired by them. They are really great for developing a unique silhouette also I hate having to kill them. If I ever see a little creature I try to put it in a jar to free it rather than kill it.
For the butterflies, that's how I like to see myself & the people that follow me & who admire my work. They're so magical & inspiring! I love my little butterflies!
When did you found out that you are a prince? What kind of prince are you? What is your kingdom?
When Omar (the love of my life) bought me my first crown back in last year December. I'm a charming one of course! My kingdom is the kingdom of Del'Hacienda !
Is it hard for a prince to live in a modern society?
For me personally, it's not because I'm a little social butterfly. However, when I see others live within society & not feel comfortable to be who they truly are it makes me feel sad. So I try my best to lift them up & so that one day they too can emerge from their little cocoons.
You have a personal brand, what it is about?
Del'Hacienda is a label my boyfriend Omar & I gave 'birth' to back in July of last year.
We are an up & coming label & I hope by the end of the new year more people will know about our designs.
It focuses on the bright side of life, we try to look through rose colored glasses each day and have that mentality resonate through our designs. The main focus being positivity, creativity, and an unique uplifting community that can propel others forward, as a town pushes the kingdom forward.
